Summary:
- This position performs all duties of maintenance technician and manager. In addition, this position is responsible for all facets of the daily operation, including work load, personnel issues, tooling, parts and facility. Summary:
- The on-duty flight follower/dispatcher will, in addition to fulfilling the duties and responsibilities of company and Federal regulations, coordinate the minute-to-minute daily operation of the airline, manage the flow of aircraft and crews in company operations and serve as the focal point for all communication, information and decisions affecting that flow. The on-duty dispatcher will have decision-making responsibility during operation irregularities, after input from appropriate Flight, Maintenance and/or passenger service personnel; unless a given decision, responsibility is defined otherwise in company or Federal regulations.
Job Responsibilities:
- Work in conjunction with the captain to release and operate a flight in accordance with applicable regulations.
- Monitor the progress of each flight.
- Issue necessary instructions and information for the safety of the flight.
- Cancel or re-dispatch a flight if, in the opinion of the dispatcher or of the PIC, the flight cannot operate or continue to operate safely as planned or released.
- Reroute or redirect a flight based purely upon economic considerations. This may include, but is not limited to- instructions pertaining to special routings, passenger convenience, and aircraft and crewmember utilization. In these cases, Captains will comply with all instructions and requests of the dispatcher compatible with safety.
- Become thoroughly familiar with the reported and forecast weather conditions on the route to be flown before releasing a flight. Utilize the approved weather sources to obtain the applicable weather information.
- Responsible for any operational restrictions and for suspending operations whenever an airport condition report indicates that existing abnormal conditions may be hazardous or unsafe.
- Become familiar with the contents of the company General Operations Manuals. Decision making responsibility during operation irregularities, after input from appropriate Flight, Maintenance and/or Passenger Service personnel; unless a given decision responsibility is defined otherwise in company or Federal regulations.
- Review various factors affecting every flight and, jointly with the Captain, determine the parameters for safe operation or to suspend or change the operation when factors dictate.
- Entering all applicable flight and duty times into the crew/dispatcher tracking form.
- Delay or cancel an assigned flight if necessary, using personal judgment.
- Initiate a change in release if necessary, using personal judgment (if the change is in the interest of safety or an improved operation).
- In the event of an emergency, contact the On Call Duty Manager and coordinate the notification process required by the emergency.
- Briefly summarize shift activities noting irregular operations, operational delays, and other relevant comments in the Shift Report log.
- Monitor maintenance and mechanical delays encountered at places of origin and destination and intermediate stops.
- Monitor any known conditions that may adversely affect the safety of flight.

Cape Air will be filling several seaonal positions this summer at locations including Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, Hyannis, New Bedford, Boston, Providence and Provincetown! Interviews will begin in March for start dates ranging from April, May and June. Airport positions are cross-trained and applicants can expect to be work the ticket counter, operations and ramp. Reservations Department openings will also be available for our Hyannis location only.
